Remembering One I Didn't Know
For anyone who didn't know, Hunter S. Thompson died last week. I personally had never heard of him until he'd died. His name had appeared in some of my regular haunts (Sarah Lane's Blog and bumscorner) and they seemed to of held a high respect for this man. I didn't think much of it until today. I picked up the Parthenon (Marshall University's Newspaper) and saw that there was a column written about him. The columnist described him and his work and how much he had impacted her life. It turns out he was an outspoken journalist who just wanted to be himself and not follow any fads. He was revolutionary and respected by so many people. I really wish I'd of known about him during his life. As a journalist, I never took into consideration that I should have some journalistic role models. The most I have right now is Kevin Rose, Sarah Lane, and Morgan Webb. Their not exactly journalists, but they do work in the media and I love all their work. I really need to delve into journalism and find some people I can really look up to. I think I'll look into the work of Hunter S. Thompson so I can form my own opinion of him. Just because he is laid to rest does not mean I can't enjoy his work and strive to be like him. I feel so out of the loop, I should of known about someone who had touched so many people's lives because of his journalistic work. Whether or not I read his work, I still can look up to this apparently amazing man. I can hope that someday, my contribution to the world of journalism can affect people the way his did. I'm sad that he's dead and I never knew who he was, but I'm glad I had a chance to hear about him, even if it was after he past. I'm very sorry, my journalistic peers, I wish I could of been there for you and with you when you heard the news that a legend and a role model had left this world forever. I wish I could understand what you're going through and appreciate him the way you all did. If anyone out there has any links to some of his better works, direct me to them in my comments, I really want to get to know this man. I give my greatest condolences to anyone who he touched and until next time, Later Days.

I Need to Stop Having "Accidents"
As most of you know, I'm a reporter and radio personality by trade, kinda, I don't really get paid, but that's not the point here. The point is I enjoy reporting and the whole radio station experience. As a reporter I can meet a lot of important people and let some of my friends be on the news if they have been involved in something news worthy. The latter happened this past week. Last Friday (not yesterday, the one before that), the annual John Marshall Forensics tournament occurred. I saw all my old friends from Forensics that are still in high school. I figured, since most people don't even realize what forensics is, I could do a story on this. I interviewed one of my old friends then preceded to interview the director of forensics here at Marshall. As I interviewed, I noticed they had a shortage of judges. I went on to say, "If you guys need any more judges, I could help you out, I was in forensics in high school." She replied, "Why didn't you do it here?" The truth is I did go to her office really early in the year and sign up for the forensics team, I just got so caught up in the radio I never came back. I told her this and she said, "Well, the State Championship is next week if you'd like to do it." I didn't want to do it, I knew she wouldn't expect me to go to a tournament in no more then a week's notice, so I made the excuse, "I don't have anything prepared." She asked, "Have you ever done impromptu?" I'm actually an award winning impromptu speaker at the high school level, thus I meekly replied, "yes." Which was the meek sound of me signing my fate a week from that day. That brings me to here, I am now in my dorm room because I've already competed in my first round of impromptu. I sorta accidentally joined the Marshall University forensics team. How do I manage to do this, as if I wasn't busy enough. I guess I better get ready for my second round, Later Days.

Happy V-Day Everyone!
Okay, today has been a very nice Valentines Day. I had class as usual and did pretty good on all the work I got back, and I got a whole lot of work back today. I went to an event held by the college radio station, which I pretty much work at and got to see people really enjoy the prizes I gathered throughout last week. I put up a new review on Bums Corner. In case you're wondering what I reviewed, it has to do with a mp3 player made by apple I bought myself yesterday. If you're so dense you still don't know what I'm talking about, I bought a blue iPod mini. Yea me! Okay, I'm officially out of things to say. Again Happy V-Day to everyone and Later Days.

Apologies and Accomplishments
Okay, I haven't blogged in a very long time, but I have been really, really busy. I know, I know, every other time I've said I've been busy, I start listing all the stuff I've been doing and it comes up to something like, I had classes. . . . and homework. Then I realize that I wasn't that busy after all and simply didn't take the time out of my day to blog for all of you good people. Since I have legitimently been busy, I felt this would be a good a time as any to list all the things I've been doing and at the same time give a shameless plug for all my new venues to voice my opinion. First off, as you all know by my last three posts, I've recently become the co-host of a radio morning show. This doesn't take a ton of preparation, but I am working really hard to try and book some local bands to be on. It'd be really cool to support local bands and have a fun morning show at the same time. Also, I've recently become a reviewer for Bums Corner. My screen name is thepillowsfan, not that you couldn't of guessed that from the title of my blog. Bums Corner is a really cool review site, we review stuff from movies to music to comics to video games. If you're into any of that stuff you should definitely check us out, if there is something out that you think we should be reviewing and we haven't yet, let me know. I'll review it for ya' if I can get my hands on it. I've also become a member of the promotions team at the radio station. We're having an event on Valentine's Day to promote the station and I've been walking around town gathering prizes for it. Nextly, I've recently joined the sports team and I've been an anchor for the sports portion of the news on Wednesdays. Speaking of news, I'm still a member of the news team and I do newsbriefs on Wednesdays and do a weekly package as a reporter. Not to mention I have all the other stuff that comes with being a college student, like classes and homework. So see, I have been busy, I told you. I've recently realized how hypocritical I've been of the celebrity blogs I read, mostly the ones on the right hand side of this site. I have enough time to check them about once each day. I go to the site and they haven't updated. I get aggravated because of this. Now I realize that when you are a celebrity (or on your way to becoming one) you are extremely busy and you try to make time to blog, but it is so hard. So, I promise I haven't forgotten you, I'm just really busy. I'll try to come back as often as I can, it just might take me a while to get some free time. Thanks a bunch for staying with me and I'll see you later, Later Days.
