Sometimes ya' gotta

So its been forever since I've been to this blog and I've moved on to another website, but I really needed to blog. I know its geeky and something weird that firmly attaches me to my generation, but I don't care. When the new year began, I had planned on going to the local community college and starting a podcast network with five shows. Its become harder to get other people started then I had first thought and my financial aid fell through. This leaves me working at Dairy Queen with crappy hours and a podcast that hasn't done anything in over a month. I don't know what to do to move forward. I really want to move to L.A. sometime over the summer, but unless I can find a better job, that's not going to happen. I don't want to be stuck here for the rest of my life. I don't feel fulfilled at all. I feel frustrated and I need something more. I feel unmotivated and tired all the time. I hope I can figure something out soon. That's about it, I just had to get all that written down, it makes it more real somehow.

My Life's Pretty Cool

At the beginning of this summer I heard about several of my friends going off and doing cool things for the summer. One of my marching band friends decided to go on tour with a Drum Corps., while another friend went to visit family in Alaska, and yet another group of local band friends I've met doing Snob-Rock went off on Warped Tour. With all this to compete with, I wondered to myself, "What could I possibly say that would interest them, with all this cool stuff going on. . . . I've been working at Pita Pit and the radio station all summer, and taking a couple of classes." As I'm sure you can tell, this doesn't sound like the most interesting summer. Although this worry plagued me in the early summer weeks, now that I'm half-finished, I've had a pretty fun summer, Bonnaroo, Saving Jane, and hanging out with friends aside, just this week alone is brag worthy! So, I will now allow you to take a look at just one week inside the life of one, Terry Bartley.

Monday, July 9th
I donated Plasma for the first time in a couple years with the reasoning that if I do it for a solid year I would have more then enough money to fly to England and see McFly, my latest obsession and incredible pop band.

Tuesday, July 10th
I go to the radio station with one goal in mind, interview Sean Watkins from Nickel Creek. After several times calling his cell phone (and BTW, it was super cool as a long-time Nickel Creek fan to just hear Sean Watkins' voice mail), I did get in contact with him and did a great interview, he actually sounded more nervous then me, a conclusion I did not predict. To top off the interview, listening back, I referred to him by his first name a couple of times, that's right, I am now on a first name basis with a childhood idol!

Wednesday, July 11th
First off, I have to get out of the way the one thing that happened this day that is cool to me, but no one else, I got my final back from my Shakespeare class and got an A! After discovering this gem in my day, I proceeded to head over to the TV talk show filming, I worked camera that day, and I gotta say, I would not mind working on a talk show everyday and getting paid for it, it was a lot of fun! After that, when I thought my day could get no better, during my nightly McFly youtube scan, I found a video featuring Hilary Duff and McFly, and yeah, I seriously thought my day couldn't get any better!

Thursday, July 12th
I received a reply email from David Lavender, the entertainment editor for the Herald-Dispatch, about an upcoming Harmonica Competition (you heard me!), and he casually mentioned that in an early copy of the upcoming Scenes from a Movie CD, they thank me personally, as well as WMUL in the liner notes. I love these guys so much and its cool to see that they love me too!

And that's my week so far. I have to say that for any "normal" person, this is a pretty interesting week. I guess I should release all fear of having a boring summer like I had originally predicted. And I mention I'm going to see Nickel Creek, possibly my favorite band of all time, this Saturday. . . . for free, ya' know, since I'm a big time radio guy that gets mentioned in liner notes of nationally distributed CDs. In conclusion, either I am a very interesting "normal" person, or maybe I really am a G-list or higher celebrity, I've got my fingers crossed!

I'm 21!

So today I turned 21 years of age. I'm just writing this to say that I really appreciate all my friends. I had 17 birthday wishes amongst my social networking friends, and most of them made the messages more personal and not just "Happy Birthday!" so I thank them for that. I had a pretty good birthday weekend, starting with meeting Marti Dodson from Saving Jane and ending with my grandma cooking me dinner. So thanks to all my friends who made this day great by showing me you care, whether if it was just by telling me to have a great birthday or if you called me last minute to go to a concert, you all are great!
